VINEYARD

The vineyards are near Sambuca di Sicilia and are 15 years old. They surround Lago Arancio (Lake Arancio) which was once a river forming a valley. The soil profiles are quite deep towards the lake and composed of ancient marine fossils. The vineyards are North facing meaning a cooler exposition. Afternoon sea breezes from the South-West provide further essential cooling.

WINEMAKING

Fruit is destemmed and fermented in small one tonne fermenters. Fruit remains on skins for 10 days before pressing to 2000 litre French oak casks.

TASTING

Freshly crushed blueberries and cherries with flecks of violet perfume. The palate is fresh and lively cherry conserve, blistered blueberry and a distinct mineral feel. A cool feel with some mountain herb notes. The tannin is grainy and al dente with fine lacy acid pulling through on the finish.

WINE REVIEWS
Vintage 2015 Been a little while since I’ve tried these wines (aside the recently reviewed rosato). It’s maturing, and shows some new leather development, but also lush suede-like tannin. Medium-bodied, blueberry and blackberry, scrub herb perfume, and a little aniseed. Fleshy and round, Italianate charm laid on, and a dry finish featuring bitter chocolate and just a little spice. Ready now. Value and interest is there.
