For almost 10 years Justin Bubb, winemaker, and founder of BABO lived and made wine in Italy. There he found his love for all things Italiano, however, his talents are not limited to making great Italian wine. Justin and his wife Anna are also pretty amazing producing wine here in Australia. They share winemaking duties at Pooley Wines in Tasmania and it has just been rated (number 13 to be exact) in the top 52 wineries in Australia by wine guru Huon Hooke. The list was published in the Good Weekend and includes some of the most famous names in Australian wine, so it is a huge achievement. Here is a little snippet of what Huon had to say:
13. Pooley Wines
LOCATION: Coal River Valley, Tas.
BEST KNOWN FOR: Super-fine riesling, especially Margaret Pooley Tribute 2019, but its chardonnay and pinot noir are rising fast.
HUON SAYS: Notwithstanding the marvellous rieslings and chardonnays, the top-scoring wines are two reds, the 2018 J.R.D. syrah, an eye-opening cool-climate shiraz, and a spellbinding 2018 Jack Denis Pooley pinot noir. This is a winery, which is blossoming.
Pooley Wines is a must-visit for any wine lover trekking over to Tasmania. A quick insider tip, make sure you stay for a pizza and glass of wine at the Cellar door!
We are super proud of Pooley’s success and on behalf of BABO - molte congratulazione to Anna, Justin, and the Pooley team. Check out the full list in the link below, plus please also find a link to Pooley’s website.
